Game of Thrones

I began working on Game of Thrones between Seasons 5 and 6, eventually becoming content lead for the final season and the 10-year “Iron Anniversary” stunt.

Jokingly referred to around the office as “the Maester”, I was the go-to for all GoT story and world-related questions, and my work touched behind-the-scenes and deep dive explainer content, social stunts, out of home activations and more. See some highlights and examples below for how I engaged with this massive, world-wide fanbase.

BLOG

Making Game of Thrones

Authored hundreds of pieces for in-season blog content, including event coverage, cast interviews, storyboard and concept art posts, costume and prop posts, infographics, and Beautiful Death art interviews.

MICROSITE

Viewers Guide

The Official Viewers Guide was a home for all "need-to-know" information for the series. Updated with the airing of every episode, the (no longer live) site featured lengthy character bios, family trees, an interactive map, exclusive video content, and more.

Each episode page spotlighted key characters, relationships, changes, locations, images and quotes, and included a long-form synopsis. All copy was written by the HBO team and reviewed by the show before publication. Towards later seasons, pages were built by the team (myself included) as the episode went live.

Video Content

I collaborated closely with HBO’s Creative Services team to conceptualize and execute multiple behind-the-scenes video series. See some examples below.

Game of Thrones: “Beyond The Wall”

Made in partnership with agency Framestore, this VR experience was Emmy-nominated.

Quest for the Throne

Leading into the final season, HBO hid six Iron Thrones throughout the globe, dropping fans hints on Twitter to help them locate each. I reviewed all clues, adjusting for accuracy to the series, and making suggestions and rewrites.
